A quick visitors' guide to Cornerstone Church Newcaslte

ABOUT OUR CHURCH

We are a gospel-centred, Spirit-led church in the heart of Newcastle city centre. Our aim is simply to know Jesus and make Jesus known, in and around Newcastle. We do this through worship and teaching on Sunday mornings and discipleship during the week in our 6 home groups - which we call Gospel Communities. Gospel Communities are the main way we grow in our faith together and make new disciples.

Our people are teenagers and students, professionals and the retired, singles and families. God wants us to be a diverse church that reflects the city of Newcastle with people of different ages, nationalities, callings, professions and stages of faith calling Cornerstone home. Christians and those exploring Christianity are equally welcome.

CHURCH LUNCHES

Many people look for a new church in September and October. You may be a student just moving to Newcastle, or someone already living here and feel God calling you or your family to something new.

Either way, we would love for you to join us for lunch after Sunday meetings over September and October. Each lunch will be prepared by one of our home groups (Gospel Communities), with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available.

Get to know other Christians, our leaders, and ask about what it’s like to worship at Cornerstone and what God is calling us to now and in the future. Lunch will be served on:

  • 22nd September by Heaton Gospel Community
  • 29th September by Jesmond Gospel Community
  • 6th October by Newcastle West Gospel Community
  • 13th October by Gateshead Gospel Community
  • 20th October by Fenham Gospel Community
  • 27th October by Newcastle North Gospel Community

HOME GROUPS (Gopel Communities)

Gospel Communities are the main way our church does community, discipleship and mission. Members grow together through strong friendship, fun, prayer, discussion and reading the bible together.

Like our church, we feel Gospel Communities should reflect the communities they are based in; people in each community are from a range of ages, professions and family statuses. We do not organise specific home groups for students or couples; we believe we can learn from and encourage each other in the Gospel regardless of our current life stage.

We currently have Gospel Communities in:

  • Fenham
  • Gateshead
  • Heaton
  • Jesmond
  • Newcastle West
  • Newcastle North

SUNDAY MORNINGS

We meet on Sunday mornings throughout the year, with meetings starting at 10:30. We begin with evangelical style worship, followed by a sermon and then coffee after the meeting finishes. Children from 18 months can be encouraged in their faith in Cornerstone Kids, while youth learn about maturing in their faith in Fusion. Over September and October we put on lunch after meetings for visitors to get a chance to know us better and find out if Cornerstone is right for them.

Our worship incorporates both contemporary and historical songs and hymns, and our sermon series go through whole books of the bible, with each sermon covering a section. Everyone gets a free tea or coffee after the service (including flat whites and cappuccinos) and if you’re lucky, one of our members may have brought some baking along.

MISSION

We do mission in Newcastle mainly through our Gospel Communities (home groups). Through Gospel Communities we serve our colleauges, family, friends and specific areas of Newcastle and Gateshead. Our vision is that as people begin their journy of faith, they will do that in community through our home groups.

We also partner with Safe Families for Children to help harder to reach people in Newcastle, Advance Network to plant and strengthen other churches around the world, and Compassion to help children out of poverty.
