new to cornerstone church?

Cornerstone is a bunch of people who want to make much of what Jesus has done for them and tell others about this Good News. Whether you are young or old, we would love you to join us in working out this call: To Know Jesus and Make Jesus Known. See you this Sunday!

What to expect ON SUNDAY?

We gather together every Sunday at 10:30am.

Everyone is welcome! There is lots of parking wrapped around the building.

The venue is Cornerstone Church, Maple Terrace, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7SF.

On Sunday you can expect to meet a friendly bunch of people doing their best to live out their faith. Our meetings are welcoming and informal - so dress in whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Then a small band of musicians lead us in worship that's typically 2-3 songs with a mix of old and news songs.

The Sunday Sermon goes through books of the Bible and we explore its application to our everyday lives.

Coffee & Tea is served at the start and end of our service.

It's a great time to catch up with friends and make some new ones.

mEET THE Elders

As we read in the New Testament we see that churches are led by a team of elders, also known as pastors, shepherds or overseers. They are words used to describe the same person. The people are qualified men according to scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:5-10) and they lead with their wives in team. Although elders are the highest human authority in the local church, they are ultimately following Jesus, the chief-shepherd and ultimate Head of the church. They will give an account to Him for their stewardship.

  • Mike & esole duff

Michael is married to Esolé and they have three boys. Michael gives lead to the eldership team at Cornerstone and is employed as the paid elder. Coming from South Africa, he loves a good BBQ and spending time outdoors. Even a simple time at the beach or a walk in a forest involves his small bbq. The reason why both him and Ess uprooted their family and came to Newcastle was to bring the good news of Jesus to as many people who would listen. Witnessing people being set free by the Gospel... there is nothing better! Solo Gracia

  • Joel & Lynette Marsden

Joel is married to Lynette and has 4 children: Joshua, Annabelle, Lottie and Caleb. He works part time on staff at Cornerstone as an assistant pastor as well as a GP in a local west end practice. He loves to spend time with family, sharing good food and playing games with friends (he might be a bit competitive), going for walks in nature and playing guitar or piano. He has a heart to see the good news of Jesus impacting his family, friends and communities across Newcastle and loves seeing people discover more of who God is and what He has called them to.

Kingdom Cultures

This Five things we want to see cultivated at Cornerstone:

1. Biblical Teaching and Training

Jesus is our teacher, His words are the words of eternal life and faith come from hearing His word. We not only seek to connect people to Christ, but also want them to deepen their knowledge of, and trust in, Christ. We want to equip people for engagement in the world.

2. Humble, Courageous & Sacrificial Leadership

We want to be led by Jesus, lead like Jesus and lead others to Jesus. We want to train men and women for leadership in the home, workplace, university and church. At Cornerstone we want to model to the wider city of Newcastle a different and counter-cultural city. We want to model a gospel-centred life in the areas of marriage, sexuality, finances, community and truth.

3. Spirit-filled and Spirit-led

We believe that every facet of the Christian life is reliant upon the infilling and guidance of God the Holy Spirit. We also believe he speaks to us through God’s word and through the demonstration of the power of God through gifts given to believers, for God’s glory and the edification of the church. We intend for our individual lives and our church gatherings to reflect a willingness to follow His leading and walk with confidence in His empowering. This would include a less scripted approach to our gatherings, an openness to the filling of the Spirit and to the use of His gifts of power and supernatural revelation.

4. God-Centered Generosity

The generosity of God is displayed perfectly in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. His generosity is costly, indiscriminate, selfless and abundant. At Cornerstone we seek to mirror this generosity.

5. Communities of Life, Love & Mission

God is by nature in community (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). At Cornerstone we seek to not only grow in size and influence, but also in closeness and connection. We want to see people welcomed and join gospel communities that exist to serve their neighbourhoods.

who is jesus?

The Man

Jesus is the Son of God, whose perfect example as a man shows us how to live our lives today.

Jesus was born in a small rural town roughly 2000 years ago and lived a relatively quiet life until the age of 30 when He began His public ministry. Over the next three years He preached the gospel, performed miracles and through this combination of words and works, He showed Himself as God on the Earth.

The Mission

Jesus came into the world on a mission; to make God known, to bring in God’s Kingdom and to accomplish God’s salvation. He did this through His life of perfect obedience to His Father, His sacrificial death in the place of sinful men and women, and His victorious resurrection from the dead. Jesus is, therefore, the saviour of all who put their faith in Him.

The Message

This is the good news for a broken world. Jesus has dealt with God’s anger at sin and reconciled us to Himself. He has cleansed us of our guilt and shame, opened the way to eternal life and He has given us His Holy Spirit to enable us to live for Him. This is the message that the church has been charged to proclaim through every generation until Jesus returns. In that day all things will be made new, to the praise of His glorious name.

wHAT NEXT?

The Bible says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Receiving God’s salvation is as easy as that because the hard work was done by Jesus himself. The gift is free to us but was costly to Jesus. To receive this gift, you could simply pray:

“Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. I believe that you died for the wrong I’ve done against others and against you as the creator. I accept your love and grace for me and ask that you would be the Lord of my life.”

The next step is to let us know you've invited Jesus into your life. We would love to help you know Jesus more and walk alongside you at the start of this incredible adventure. So go ahead now and complete the GET CONNECTED card, and tick the box 'I prayed the prayer of salvation' and we'll be in touch as quick as a flash.
